today, I will review in detail one of the most important tools in adobe illustrator cc. so, make sure to watch to the end of the video, and don't forget to leave a like, subscribe, and ask me anything in the comment section. this tool is the pathfinder tool. the pathfinder tool allows you to combine and subtract shapes. the pathfinder tool in illustrator can be found by going to the top menu, select window, pathfinder. there are 10 buttons with different functions, I will explain in detail every function. as you see, there is the shape mode and the pathfinder. the first button is "unite". it can unite two or more objects into one object. the fill and stroke of the front object will be preserved. the second button is called "minus front". the object in the back will keep its fill and stroke. the third button is "intersect". will keep only the intersection of the objects. the intersection takes its fill and stroke from the object in front. the fourth button is "exclude". it keeps the objects but the intersection will be deleted. the new object takes its color and stroke from the object in front. there is an option associated with the shape mode. if you hold down the "alt-key" then click on any button you like to use. notice that the original paths are still remaining and you are still able to customize your shape by double-click on the path to reposition it. if you are satisfied with the result, click "expand". below the shape mode the pathfinder. the first button is "divide". it divides the objects along the intersecting lines. right-click to ungroup. every part is separated. the second button is "trim". it subtracts the front object from the back object. the stroke will not be preserved. the third button is "merge". it trims the object in front from the object in the back. but it merges the objects with the same fill. the fourth button is "crop". all objects will be deleted, just the intersection will remain. the fill will be the same as the back object. the fifth button is "outline". it converts the objects into its outlines. but the paths will be cut at every intersection. the last button is "minus-back". it functions the reverse of "minus-front" in the shape mode. the stroke will be preserved.
